HIGH JINX, our home away from home, is happily in her slip in San Carlos Mexico now, and I am just as happily aboard, pecking away at my keyboard. This year has been a busy one, with me trying to finish number four in the Hetta Coffey series (and yes, I am nearing completion) and editing Land of Mountains for re-release as a juvenile/YA book. I will be going to Las Vegas in March 2009 to attend the EPIC conference there and see if...drum roll...the winner is, ME for Just Add Trouble. Books in Motion has now released Just Add Water in Audio, and it is great fun to listen to my own words read back to me. Boy, that Hetta if a pill. If you are wondering how I got my nickname, Jinx, I had it long before Halle Berry's character in the latest Bond flick. In a Texas School back in the dark ages when Pixie, Dixie and Jinx were featured in a popular cartoon strip, my two best friends were named Pixie and Dixie. Okay, so Jinx was a cat and a "mister" to boot, but kids will be kids. And I still hate hate meeses to pieces. HAVE A WONDERFUL 2009, DESPITE THE BLEAK ECOMONIC NEWS. True to form, her irreverent nature and disregard for danger soon swamps her in a sea of inconvenient bodies, illegal aliens, a pesky whale, and a menacing Mexican machinator. And her without her usual arsenal of firepower.t sail for Baja Mexico's Magdalena Bay as Hetta Coffey leads us once more into a Review: I love Hetta. She is such a fun character. You never quite know what she's going to do. I often find myself laughing while reading books in this series. Even though I'm not interested in sailing, I really enjoy these books. This one was fun because they end up in the middle of the ocean and can only keep in touch with people through phones. When that's wiped out, they end up having to rely on each other and a few people who are nearby. But their chosen sea has a serpent: Mexico's burgeoning drug trade.   After witnessing a drug deal gone wrong, they set off a deadly chain of events that lands them in a sea of intrigue involving a best friend, the Mexican federal police, the DEA, US Coast Guard and a drug Cartel.   This fast-paced adventure is a must read for anyone who has ever dreamed of cutting the lines and shoving off to romance and adventure.         My fourth book, Land of Mountains, was released last year. Reliving and embellishing my childhood in Haiti was a fun experience. I am getting feedback from many readers who are passing this book to their children and grandchildren, so I will probably target this book to the youth market next year.I write to entertain, both myself and my readers. Fiction is a wonderful way to both enhance and embellish one's life, and, quite frankly, most peoples lives—even one as diverse as mine has been—just don't make for a good read. Granted, my experiences give me fodder for the tale, but even those need a little "tweaking." Okay, a lot of tweaking. So in Land of Mountains, the little girl and I share a name, but no, she is not me. I did, however, run into a zombie once....... LAND OF MOUNTAINS When a ten-year-old Texan moves to Haiti in the 1950's, she is instantly plunged into a world of voodoo, zombies and political unrest. To her, it is a paradise.   Living in Camp Péligre, a construction camp miles from civilization, Lizbuthann, her parrot, Pee Wee, and their best friend, Doux Doux Boudreaux, spend many hours roaming jungle paths on horseback, swimming untamed rivers, swinging from Tarzan ropes dangling from giant kapok trees, and indulging in a little unwelcome "snoopery" inspired by childhood detective novels. Unfazed by tropical disease, storms, and varmints, Lizbuthann is determined to delve into an even more dangerous and forbidden world: witchcraft and zombies. Her precocious and curious nature inevitably lands her, and everyone around  her, in a heap of havoc. Innocence and evil compete in this humorous coming-of-age fictography  that takes us back to another time and place, where rivers-and little girls- ran wild and free.
