JUST ADD TROUBLE, THIRD IN THE HETTA COFFEY SERIES, HAS BEEN RELEASED BY Trebleheart Books. FOR DETAILS, E-ME AT jinxschwartz@yahoo.com

HIGH JINX, our home away from home, is happily in her slip in San Carlos Mexico now, and I am just as happily aboard, pecking away at my keyboard. Now that Just Add Trouble is out, it is time to decide what comes next. I have in mind to make a short diversion--ok, not so short, since it will probably take at least a year--into another typle of book, but Hetta is not happy about being put on the side burner. We shall see.

If you are wondering how I got my nickname, Jinx, I had it long before Halle Berry's character in the latest Bond flick. In a Texas School back in the dark ages when Pixie, Dixie and Jinx were featured in a popular cartoon strip, my two best friends were named Pixie and Dixie. Okay, so Jinx was a cat and a "mister" to boot, but kids will be kids. And I still hate hate meeses to pieces.

K JUST ADD SALT

Hetta Coffey, a globe-trotting engineer with attitude, a penchant for trouble, and a yacht, is back, and this time she's steering us into hot Mexican waters.

Miffed that vacation plans with her chronically absent boyfriend, Jenks Jenkins, have gone awry, she accepts a job in Baja. So what if she and her friend, Jan, are spectacularly unqualified to take her yacht on a thousand mile cruise in the eastern Pacific Ocean during hurricane season? Hiring a handsome, if somewhat fishy, captain for the trip might keep them off the rocks, but probably won't do the same for her future with Jenks. Meanwhile, a little eye candy on board can't be all bad.

Hetta's unmanageable independence impels her to tackle the very profitable, if environmentally and politically incorrect project south of the border. True to form, her irreverent nature and disregard for danger soon swamps her in a sea of inconvenient bodies, illegal aliens, a pesky whale, and a menacing Mexican machinator.

And her without her usual arsenal of firepower.t sail for Baja Mexico's Magdalena Bay as Hetta Coffey leads us once more into a Review: I love Hetta. She is such a fun character. You never quite know what she's going to do. I often find myself laughing while reading books in this series. Even though I'm not interested in sailing, I really enjoy these books. This one was fun because they end up in the middle of the ocean and can only keep in touch with people through phones. When that's wiped out, they end up having to rely on each other and a few people who are nearby. I highly recommend this book.--Dawn Dowdle - mysterybks@yahoo.com www.mysteryloverscorner.com

ss of intrigue that will keep you laughing, breathless, and wanting more. To quote Lord Byron, Hetta would much rather "sink beneath the shock than moulder piecemeal on the rock."

Can’t get a man?

Just Add Water!

Hetta Coffey is a globe-trotting civil engineer with attitude who is working on coming of age—a little late. Pushing forty and still single, Hetta is the epitome of the “b” word: bold, bossy, brassy, breezy, and brash.

After leaving a life-long swath of failed multi-national affairs in her jet stream, it’s no wonder Hetta prefers living with her dog, RJ. But old habits die hard, and trolling for triceps is Hetta’s hobby.

Plying the San Francisco Bay waterfront in search of Saturday brunch, Hetta’s attention is snagged by a parade of passing yachts—especially their predominantly male skippers—and experiences a champagne-induced epiphany: if she had a boat, she could get a man.

In hopes a floating Valhalla will overcome an all-time low-water mark in her life, Hetta buys her dream boat in spite of a spectacular ignorance of all things nautical. But a shadowy stalker, an inconvenient body, and Hetta’s own self-destructive foibles imperil not only her new life, but a newly-found romance.

Hetta Coffey brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “sink or swim.”

HERE'S WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT TROUBLED SEA

Yacht cruising drama unfolds in the Sea of Cortez's most alluring anchorages, written with dazzle and authority by an experienced cruiser. —Capts. Pat & John E. Rains, authors of "Mexico Boating Guide"

A page-flipping tale of drugs, death and destruction involving Mexican and American enforcement officers battling drug smugglers on the anything but tranquil Sea of Cortez. Starting to feel comfortable - watch out as wave after wave of hard-hitting action strike with rib cracking intensity. Jinx Schwartz reaches right out and grabs you. You will not be able to put this book down! Bernie Swaim, author of Mi Baja No Hurry No Worry and Bouncing Around Baja

Troubled Sea is a thriller with all the right ingredients; peopled by intriguing characters who seem to be real, and set in evocative Baja locations that I know are real! Jennifer Redmond, Editor, "Sea of Cortez Review"

...an engrossing, can't-put-it-down high-Baja-seas adventure. Carol Kramer, Discover Baja Travel Club

Although a story of fiction, TROUBLED SEA is very believable. . . the book is one not to be missed. It was executed with great talent and bears heavily with suspense. As with any tale involving the sea, you will find yourself riveted to this book and will scarce want to put it down. Jim Bless, Roundtable Reviews

Hetta and Jenks Jenkins live a life many only dream of aboard their 42-foot

boat in Mexico's hauntingly beautiful Sea of Cortez. They have dropped from

corporate life, away from cars, televisions and telephones, to cruise the solitary

sea. But their chosen sea has a serpent: Mexico's burgeoning drug trade.

After witnessing a drug deal gone wrong, they set off a deadly chain of events

that lands them in a sea of intrigue involving a best friend, the Mexican federal

police, the DEA, US Coast Guard and a drug Cartel.

This fast-paced adventure is a must read for anyone who has ever dreamed

of cutting the lines and shoving off to romance and adventure.

My fourth book, Land of Mountains, was released last year. Reliving and embellishing my childhood in Haiti was a fun experience. I am getting feedback from many readers who are passing this book to their children and grandchildren, so I will probably target this book to the youth market next year.I write to entertain, both myself and my readers. Fiction is a wonderful way to both enhance and embellish one's life, and, quite frankly, most peoples lives—even one as diverse as mine has been—just don't make for a good read. Granted, my experiences give me fodder for the tale, but even those need a little "tweaking." Okay, a lot of tweaking. So in Land of Mountains, the little girl and I share a name, but no, she is not me. I did, however, run into a zombie once.......

LAND OF MOUNTAINS

When a ten-year-old Texan moves to Haiti in the 1950's, she is

instantly plunged into a world of voodoo, zombies and political unrest.

To her, it is a paradise.

Living in Camp Péligre, a construction camp miles from civilization,

Lizbuthann, her parrot, Pee Wee, and their best friend, Doux Doux

Boudreaux, spend many hours roaming jungle paths on horseback,

swimming untamed rivers, swinging from Tarzan ropes dangling from

giant kapok trees, and indulging in a little unwelcome "snoopery"

inspired by childhood detective novels. Unfazed by tropical disease,

storms, and varmints, Lizbuthann is determined to delve into an even

more dangerous and forbidden world: witchcraft and zombies. Her

precocious and curious nature inevitably lands her, and everyone around

her, in a heap of havoc.

Innocence and evil compete in this humorous coming-of-age fictography

that takes us back to another time and place, where rivers-and little girls-

    ran wild and free.

The Texicans ON SALE!

A Novel of Early Texas

 Elizabeth Maul Schwartz

NOT another story about Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, Sam Houston and the boys.

Decades before Crockett, Bowie, or Houston even set foot in Texas, Frederick Stockman was already there. And he intended to stay.

Inspired by the author's own Texas roots, this is the story of a frontier family's courageous determination to make Texas their home. It took thirty years, two revolutions, sheer grit, and a lot of Stockman blood to do so.

Spanish Texas in 1806 was a forbidding and forbidden land. Only the very bold dared to cross her borders. Frederick and Katherine Stockman, no strangers to the adversities of life on the ragged edge of civilization, landed their family in a forlorn Texas swamp at the mouth of the Trinity River to start a new life. Accustomed to hostile humans, menacing wildlife and debilitating maladies, they soon found a new threat as Texicans-bigotry.

Texicans were a rough and tumble breed of frontier rebelsHispanic, Anglo, Black and Indian with ties to Mexico. They fought for Mexico's freedom from Spain, then, rewarded as Heroes of Mexico, soon found themselves vilified by the hoards of North Americans pouring across Texas' unprotected border.

The Texicans is the story of proud and fierce people in an era of tumult.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Elizabeth Maul Schwartz in a ninth-generation Texan and an amateur historian.

Raised in construction camps in the jungles of Haiti and Thailand, with periodic returns to Texas, Elizabeth followed in her father's steel-toed boot-steps into the Construction/ Engineering Industry.

After working on the Alaska Pipeline andprojects in Japan, Mexico and New Zealand, she dropped from corporate life to go cruising.

She and her husband, Robert, lived aboardtheir boat in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico.

The Texicans, Jinx's first novel, was inspiredby a Texas history book calling her ancestor's clan "a congenial society for evil"—rogues "skilled in many forms of villainy" for their support of the Mexican government in the growing tensions with North American newcomers.
